Welcome to Ecotale Fabrics!

Whether you’re a business looking for a quality linen fabric supplier or somebody that appreciates reasonably priced beautiful linen fabrics, you’re welcome at Ecotale Fabrics. Here you'll find a selection of linen fabrics ranging from traditionally crisp, natural ones to the most up-to-date softened, "crushed", or coated ones. Some are great for dressmaking, some are perfect for home furnishings, and all the lovely linen fabrics here are of top quality, coming from long established linen mills in Europe.

Every linen fabric is a certain combination of weight and finishing type.  These two main properties define how your fabric will behave once made into a garment or a home accessory. Will it drape well? How much will it crease? Does one need to wash it before cutting? Check for weight and any finishing types in the information provided next to each individual fabric for guidance in these areas.

You'll find that some linen fabrics here have been softened, "crushed", pre-washed, or coated. Here's what's behind these fancy words:

Softening is a process that makes linen fabrics softer to touch and less prone to creasing. Softened linen fabrics iron quite easily and drape well. This finish will especially benefit such home decor projects like medium weight tie-back curtains that you want to drape well with fewer creases forming when tied back. Unlike "crushed" linen fabrics, most softened ones retain the signature crispy linen look.

“Crushing” will make linen fabrics even more soft, as well as giving them that unique “just out of the tumble dryer” look that can’t even be removed when ironing. In fact, it’s often recommended to tumble dry such fabrics to preserve this distinctive look. This finish also shrinks the fabric in the process thus making for smaller width; however don’t forget it still needs to be pre-washed before cutting. “Crushed” linen fabrics are a great choice for bed-linen as well as comfy garments like linen trousers and tunics. This particular finish is the favorite with several eco-conscious British designers, too!

Pre-shrinking   means exactly that- some linen fabrics have been pre-shrunk during the manufacturing process, so you don’t need to. This is especially convenient for larger projects like curtains, as it saves you some considerable washing. Just don’t forget to take this into account when calculating fabric length for your project.

Coating   means that a specific coat has been applied to the linen fabric. It can be anything from water/dirt-proofing, to various decorative ones, like silver or gold coating. When sewing with coated linen fabrics, it’s worth bearing in mind that most are dry-clean only.
